Blog and website: www.skillcult.com/blog Instagram and Facebook @SkillCult Refitting the very loose Husqvarna forest axe head. The axe came with a very poor head to handle fit. If Hults, who make this axe, would make the handle pattern fit the axe head better, they could save consumers a lot of frustration and effort. The shoulder and the handles are both exaggeratedly thick, probably as an attempt to reduce breakage among users. But, that approach is somewhat misguided and has created another problem. I refit the axe head, first ensuring a good seat around the base of the eye, then shimming with a hardwood wedge to insure a good front to back of eye fit. Then wedging the head in place with the main wedge that stretches the handle side to side. Next the handle is ready for re-shaping and thinning.
