Finding My Colors: Building a Limited Watercolor Palette

Get started today! https://skl.sh/littlepoetry02261 In this video, I share how I found my color language and built a limited watercolor palette that truly reflects the way I paint. After years of collecting watercolors, I began to feel overwhelmed by too many choices and frustrated by paints that didn’t behave the way I needed. As I started working more in transparent layers, I realized I needed a palette that was intentional — one that supported both my aesthetic and my technique. I began by gathering visual inspiration and identifying the tones that consistently resonated with me — warm ochres, muted pinks, moody greens, soft blues. From there, I designed a limited palette capable of recreating those colors through thoughtful mixing and careful pigment selection. In this video, I share: – how I identified my personal color preferences – how I selected paints based on transparency and lightfastness – how I created mixing charts to truly understand my colors – and how I tested my palette by recreating my inspiration tones This is not about using fewer colors just for the sake of minimalism. It’s about building something that works for you — something harmonious, intentional, and aligned with your creative process. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by too many art supplies, I hope this inspires you to slow down, simplify, and truly get to know your colors. Colors in my limited palette : 1. That won’t change — it’s an important part of what I do. However, having a core, limited palette that truly reflects my color preferences and painting process brings me a lot of clarity and comfort. It’s my main palette — the one I return to — even while exploring other materials. 🎥 Filmed & Edited Filmed and edited by Vânia 📷 Filming Equipment Camera: Canon R Lens: Canon Macro 35mm, Canon 24-70mm Editing software: DaVinci Resolve Studio Music by Epidemic Sound #watercolor #limitedpalette #watercolorpalette #colormixing #watercolormixing #artprocess #colorstudy #paintingtutorial #artlessons #colorpalette #artiststudio #creativepractice #watercolorartist #moderncolortheory #slowart
