Beating Records With Speed Skater Eric Heiden I 80's Olympic Icon Eric Heiden soared to the highest level of competitive skiing and left a record for other Americans to dream of, winning a record-breaking 5 Olympic gold medals all before the age of 22. Even when he overslept for his last race after attending the iconic 'Miracle on Ice' game. His sports career was as short as it was brilliant, enough to have him memorialized in the Olympic Hall of Fame and for him to launch into a completely separate competitive sport. Just as quickly as he had risen to global fame, Heiden disappeared from public life, refusing to defend his records and instead choosing to dedicate his life to medicine.
