By synthesizing the central ideas in the summary, you can quickly recall what was said in the analyzed text without needing to reread it, making academic writing easier. As mentioned in previous videos, there are several types of summaries, and in this video, we will discuss the critical summary. In a critical summary, you will present your analysis of various ideas from the book or article being summarized. Thus, you will develop external critiques (origin of the analyzed academic text, translation performed, context in which it arose, etc.) and internal critiques (value of the work, central idea defended, your position regarding the analyzed work). In this way, a critical analysis is carried out in the critical summary that you will develop. To use the summary effectively, employ the critical summary in the central work of your academic paper (undergraduate thesis, master's dissertation, doctoral thesis, or scientific article) and in the main work that contradicts the position you are defending. By creating the critical summary, you record the main ideas you developed throughout your reading, avoiding the risk of losing them when writing the text.
