Defence's Lismore flood response

Australian Defence Force personnel were on the ground (and in the air) supporting Lismore in northern New South Wales from the beginning, working alongside council, SES, police, firefighters, utilities providers and the locals themselves in responding to the devastating floods. Today, Navy, Army and Air Force personnel remain in Lismore and across northern New South Wales continuing to collaborate with authorities to help communities to recover. During Operation Flood Assist 2022, approximately 7000 Australian Defence Force personnel were available for tasking in Queensland and New South Wales. Australian Defence Force personnel assisting south-east Queensland flood-affected communities have begun returning home, with state requests for assistance concluding on Friday, 25 March 2022. However, about 4000 Australian Defence Force personnel remain on task or available for tasking in northern NSW, assisting with clean-up and disaster relief efforts in areas such as Lismore, Richmond Valley, Ballina, Casino, Clarence Valley, Evans Head and Tweed Heads. Australian Defence Force personnel continue to provide aerial search and rescue, medical evacuation and reconnaissance, as well as clearing routes in flood-affected areas, supporting communities in clean-up and the delivery of essential supplies to isolated areas.
