Bridlington

Bridlington’s Lobster Fishing Fleet Bridlington Harbour. Bridlington - lobster capital of Europe.Bridlington’s Fishing Boats recorded for posterity on Monday 2nd December 2024. Food was rationed during WW2 but not Fish and Chips - the fishing families of Bridlington and other UK ports sustained the population of the UK through the hard and often hungry times of WW2. Fishing families risked their lives on the North Sea with German aircraft of the Luftwaffe presenting a life threatening threat - as though the ever present danger of the world’s most dangerous sea - the North Sea - were not enough. The shallow and subsequently often highly dangerous North Sea can often be seen as 20ft waves from the beach at Bridlington bay. Here is a walking tour of Bridlington’s South Pier and Bridlington’s fish terminal where today the world class famous lobsters are unloaded. Year’s ago Bridlington was famous for it’s fishing trawlers and sometimes the harbour was packed with fishing boats. Times change and it’s great to see the recovery of the industry to the extent that Bridlington lobsters are now desired the world over.
