As Arkış Engineering, we had previously carried out a distance test with the E22-900T22D Lora module operating at 868 MHz and the monopole antenna receiver-transmitter pair. In this test, we reached up to 30 km within line of sight. However, we did not continue the test because our line of sight ended. In our test, which is the subject of this video, we carried out a new distance test by making more comprehensive preliminary preparations. Unlike our first test, for this test we used a classic omnidirectional antenna on the transmitter side, while we connected a PCB Yagi-Uda antenna developed by Arkış Engineering to the receiver side. Before starting the distance test, we fixed a small OLED module to the receiver module side that we prepared. Thanks to this module, we enabled the display of an 8-character random number sent by the transmitter every second. In addition, two hills were determined to ensure line of sight of the sender and receiver. We used the site heywhatsthat.com for this purpose. For the transmitter module, we selected the hill called Hırka Mountain in Nevşehir. For the receiver module, the hill named Pasha Mountain within the borders of Ankara province was the most suitable place for us. Since fog and rain were expected in the region on the day we would perform the test, we determined the appropriate hours by visiting ventusky.com. The weather was quite foggy and drizzling while climbing Hırka Mountain. When we reached the top, the weather was relatively clear. We packaged the transmitter module in a way that would not be affected by rain, using stretch film and duct tape. We left the antenna part exposed. We placed the module in a sheltered place right on the slope of the summit. We took care to leave the transmitter module's direction of view towards Pasha Mountain open. We performed tests at different distances while descending from Hırka Mountain. Data transmission was happening smoothly. Our first stop on the road was a roadside at the 38th km. Here, our receiver Lora module with Yagi-uda antenna received the sent data without any problems. Thus, we covered the 30 km distance we had previously covered at our first stop. When we tested the classical monopole antenna in the same location, we saw that the system could not reach the data. It is difficult to say anything exactly about where data transmission is interrupted when this antenna is used. However, what we know for sure is that, starting from the 38th km, the classic black monopole antenna can no longer be used for data reception under these conditions. Our second stop was Hirfanlı recreation facilities. This is a location 89 km away from the transmitter. At this point, we did not experience any problems in terms of data flow. Our third stop was a point on Pasha Mountain, which was our final destination. Both Hirfanlı dam and Tuz lake could be seen from this beautiful location, 123 KM away from the transmitter. We received our data from here without any problems. We drove our vehicle to the last point where line-of-sight was open and our test there was also successful. This point was exactly 126 km away from the transmitter. During the tests, we encountered more or less rain and fog in the areas where the transmitter and receiver modules were located and along the line as the crow flies. Despite this, the Lora module and Yagi-Uda antenna pair did a very successful job. We estimate that our system can transmit data to longer distances, provided that the line of sight is maintained. It can be said that the special modulation technique of Lora technology and the high gain structure of the Yagi-uda antenna are the main reasons for this success.
