Using an automatic motorcycle that's far from ideal for extreme trails, I attempted to navigate the Tambora route via Piong, a route usually only used by trail bikes or 4WD vehicles. From the start, I knew this wouldn't be easy. Sand tracks, steep climbs, damaged roads, the bike repeatedly getting stuck, and the gradual exhaustion of energy after hours of riding... all became part of the struggle in this episode. But that's precisely where this story feels most meaningful. The journey began in Calabai Village, where I spent two nights at the home of Mr. Ahmad and his family. Their kindness reminded me once again that this journey isn't just about the destination...but also about the kind people who always show up at the right time. From the Tambora gate via Piong, the journey continued to take me over hill after hill, sandy dirt paths, and long, exhausting climbs. Several times, I even had to rescue my motorcycle mid-track. But all the fatigue slowly paid off... when the motorcycle finally reached Post 5—the final vehicle limit before the summit of Mount Tambora. And according to confirmation from the Piong basecamp... this was the first time an automatic motorcycle had been successfully taken to Post 5 of Mount Tambora via Piong. Honestly, I felt incredibly proud, but this wasn't about who was the best. It was about the courage to try, and persevering as far as possible when things felt tough.
