Iran claims it destroyed ten American MQ-9A Reaper drones during a missile strike on Jordan’s King Faisal Air Base—potentially wiping out nearly the entire reserve available to replenish Washington’s shrinking fleet. According to the IRGC, eight newly manufactured but unassembled Reapers and two aircraft already in operational service were destroyed. The Pentagon has not confirmed those losses. The claim is particularly significant because General Atomics told The War Zone in June that fewer than ten effectively new MQ-9As remained available worldwide, including low-hour company aircraft and components capable of being assembled into new drones. The US Air Force has reportedly sought every available Reaper after losing roughly two dozen during the Iran war, while production has shifted to the substantially redesigned MQ-9B.
