Traditional Irish Fleadh Nua Festival, Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland 1975
Thousands head to the County Clare for the music, dance and fun at the Fleadh Nua in Ennis. More than 30,000 people attend the céilithe (dances) and open air entertainment of Fleadh Nua in Ennis, County Clare. As Fleadh Nua is chiefly a cultural gathering, there are only two competitions, set dancing and scoraíocht (dramatic recitals). More than 60 groups, including pipe bands and wren boys take part in the parade. Colourful floats depict events from history, the culture and sport. Mummers take part in the Seisiún Mór held at the Ennis Courthouse Fair Green, There was a spectacular display of the esoteric art of lilting. Robbie McMahon from Spancil Hill in County Clare, lilts 'The Masons Apron', a traditional Irish reel. An RTÉ News report broadcast on 27 May 1975. The reporter is Dermot Mullane.
