Here's TAMMY ... She's the IDEAL teen!
Hello and welcome back. I've taken one of my favourite fashion doll houses out of storage this weekend so let's have a look at Tammy, her family, friends and house. The Tammy Doll was launched in 1962/63 by the Ideal toy corporation, and was intended to be a more wholesome, ‘girl next door’ competitor to Barbie. However, unlike Barbie the professional ‘Teenage Fashion model’, Tammy was just a regular girl — albeit “the Ideal teen” as the catchy commercials that you will see here put it — and she even had an entire family including Mom, Dad, Brother Ted, and freckled little sister Pepper among some friends, such as her very HTF boyfriend Bud and Pepper’s friends Dodi and Salty. There were also countless outfits, accessories, and some bigger items such as Tammy’s convertible, Pepper’s treehouse and the fabulous Tammy’s house that you see in this video. (It’s a little worn, being almost 60 years old and made only of stiff cardboard, but it still looks quite cool, IMO … I love that jukebox and that ping-pong table!) The Tammys shown here are what’s known as the ‘Grown up’ Tammy version that was released later in 1965, who was more lithe and teenage looking with a haircut quite similar to Barbie’s bendable leg ‘American Girl’ who was available at that time. She is seen here in the straight legged version and the Pos’n bendable limb version, (There’s also a rarer African American version,) along with both versions of her glamourous friend Misty, Her Dad, her brother Ted and Pepper’s friend Dodi. Sadly, Ideal stopped producing Tammy and her world in the United States around 1966, but she inspired the more enduring UK Pedigree Sindy Doll, who went on to major success internationally for decades. I hope you enjoy this video and please like, comment, share and subscribe if you haven't already!
