This is about Henry Morgan and how he has coped with love, responsibility, trust, betrayal and hope over the span of his 230ish-year life that just won’t end. It’s about how he has coped with all that he has seen and isolated himself to keep his secret and his sanity. Occasionally someone breaks through and frees him to laugh and renew his interest in the world around him. This is about Jo Martinez and how their meeting begins to bring each other “back to life”. It’s just lovely to watch her get him to soften and then see his guard go back up almost instantly. Gaining his trust is a step by step process. Henry’s relationship with Abe is the foundation of the story. Their father/son role reversals are bright lights of sweetness and humour. I just adore this piece of music (credit is at the end of the vid), especially the cello, and thought it was a good choice for Henry.
