But before I can get there, the AM section needs to work properly… and it definitely didn’t. Reception was weak and inconsistent across the broadcast bands, so this episode is all about diagnosing and restoring the AM side. And the unexpected culprit? A ton of contact cleaning. The band switches and internal contacts needed far more attention than I initially expected, but once I went through them methodically, the AM performance began to come back to life. If you’re working on a Nordmende multiband transistor receiver or any similar 60s/70s European radio with complex switching, you’ll recognise this battle.
