From the book of the prophet Amos Amos 7:10-17 In those days, Amaziah, priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel: "Amos is conspiring against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land cannot endure his words, for thus says Amos: 'Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall be led into exile from their land.'" Amaziah said to Amos, "Go, seer, get back to the land of Judah; there you will eat your bread and prophesy there. But do not prophesy in Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary and the house of the kingdom." Amos answered Amaziah and said, "I was not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet; I was a herdsman, and I tended sycamore trees. The Lord took me, called me as I followed the flock.
