This Escalator Climbs an Entire City
I climbed Hong Kong using the world’s longest outdoor covered escalator system. Instead of taking a taxi or hiking, I travelled up through the city via the Central Mid Levels escalators, then continued by tram and finished at Victoria Peak. It is one of the most unusual vertical routes you can take in Hong Kong. The Central Mid Levels escalator system stretches over 800 metres and connects multiple levels of the city. It moves thousands of people every day and completely changes how you experience Hong Kong’s steep streets. Route breakdown: 0:20 Riding the Central Mid Levels escalator 1:30 Pineapple bun stop 4:55 Reaching the top of the escalator system 5:40 Boarding the Peak Tram 5:50 Victoria Peak skyline reveal Hong Kong is one of the most vertically built cities in the world, and this route shows exactly why.
