Building a Sliding Dovetail Lid Box | Shaper Origin

In this video, I’m building a small box with a sliding dovetail lid using the Shaper Origin. I walk through my approach for planning the cuts ahead of time and using SVG cut files to control the toolpaths, which helps make the fit more predictable—especially on smaller projects like this. This design was inspired by a tea light box I made previously that used a similar sliding dovetail lid. I liked how that joint worked and wanted to apply the same idea to a more traditional box form, using a combination of straight and dovetail cuts. The video focuses on the workflow: setting up the cut files, managing depth and entry points, cutting the dovetail features, fitting the lids, and finishing details like chamfers and lid pulls. Between explanations, there are plenty of process shots with shop sounds and music to show how everything comes together. I also mention a small free app I developed that helps encode cut types and depths directly into SVG files before bringing them into the Shaper Origin.
