F5J Competition - 2nd March 2024 - Victorian Association of Radio Model Soaring (VARMS)

F5J competition held at the Victorian Association of Radio Model Soaring (VARMS) field, 2nd March 2024. This event was a practice session for the Australian Team selection. The day was very grey with a persistent SW breeze. The conditions didn’t seem ideal at all, but the pilots produced some great flights catching thermals when I thought it seemed hopeless. I found it really interesting to see these guys fighting to stay aloft, even when coming within 20ft-30ft of the ground, they continued to fight trying to sense the invisible lift. Smooth flat turns, all each trying to avoid errors that resulted in a loss of height. It was great to watch. I videoed (most of) one of the heats to share here, just in case some else wanted a look.
