South African Railways NGG Class Narrow Gauge locomotives 1991 Part One

In celebration of the re-gauged NGG class garratt No.129 entering regular service on the Puffing Billy Railway this old shaky footage from 1991 shows the amazing countryside these powerful locomotives were built for. About 100k's south of Durban the 2' gauge Alfred County Railway operated inland from Port Shepstone deep into the mountains of Natal Province. It was a bold attempt to commercially run steam hauled goods, passenger and tourist trains daily, and thankfully many of the relatively 'young' garratt locomotives from the line survive around the world.
