How to sew a convertible sleeping bag for a newborn yourself 👐 A convertible sleeping bag is a blanket that folds into a sleeping bag with a zipper. It can be used for walks outside, for discharge, folded into a pillow, or used as a footmuff! To sew the sleeping bag, I needed: ✔ 2 meters of fabric ✔ 1 meter of insulation ✔ 1 meter of bias binding ✔ 40 cm elastic ✔ 55 cm zipper ✔ 20 cm zipper First, I cut three pieces of fabric and insulation, each measuring 83 x 83 cm, since the finished sleeping bag, when unfolded like a blanket, will be 80 x 80 cm. The folded dimensions are 40 x 80 cm. I've already cut out three pieces and will now quilt one part of the insulation to the fabric using a diamond pattern. To do this, I need to draw the diamond patterns on the fabric or iron the lines. I iron the lines, then pin the fabric with the diamond patterns and the insulation along the edge, pin along the edge, and along the lines along which I will sew the insulation to the fabric. I then sew along all the stripes and along the edge with a sewing machine, leaving a 0.7 cm margin from the edge. One part of the envelope is ready. Now I sew a 20 cm zipper to the second part, sew it on the top of the hood, and sew a second detachable zipper at a distance of 55 cm along the sides of the fabric, leaving a 1.5 cm margin from the bottom edge. Now I cut out a pocket measuring 30x42 cm, two pieces of fabric (as in the picture), merge these pieces at the top and make a drawstring for elastic at the top of the pocket, then insert the elastic into the drawstring; you can use a wide or narrow elastic. I sew the elastic along the edges. Then I sew bias tape along the edges of the pocket, lengthwise. Now I sew the pocket to the fabric, finding the middle of the fabric and pocket and aligning them. The pocket needs to be sewn at the bottom in the middle. I have the two parts of the envelope ready, now I sew the two parts of the envelope together, leaving a 10-15 cm opening, unsewn, and turn the envelope right side out. I trim off the excess insulation and corners. I sew the opening on the machine and topstitch the blanket along the edge to the width of the presser foot.
