Is This Hull? | Detour from the Edge of Britain | Episode 1

Hull has been voted the worst place to live in England. Three times. So naturally I decided to spend an entire evening wandering around it at sunset — and I have some questions. Is this Hull? Because it's gorgeous. This is the first episode of Detour from the Edge of Britain — a companion series to Walking the Edge of Britain where I leave the coastal path behind and explore the cities, towns, and places I pass through along the way. No plan. No research. No idea what I'm looking at half the time. Just me, an hour, and whatever Hull decides to show me. And what Hull decides to show me is this: golden hour light falling across cobbled streets, a shopping mall that somehow doesn't ruin everything around it, a Museum Quarter that looks like it was designed for a period drama, and the River Hull at dusk — quiet, wide, and not at all what I was expecting. This is an hour of wandering Hull city centre at sunset. Through the shopping streets, past the mall, into the Museum Quarter with its cobbled lanes and Victorian shop fronts, and down along the banks of the River Hull as the evening light does something genuinely beautiful to a city that has absolutely no right to look this good. Hull at golden hour is a different city entirely. The kind of place that makes you stop walking and just look. Which, given that I'm supposed to be covering 10,000 miles, is saying something. Is this really the worst place to live in England? Come and see for yourself. 🗺️ IN THIS EPISODE No timestamps — just wander with me. Hull City Centre | Hull Shopping Streets | St Stephen's Shopping Centre | Museum Quarter Hull | Hull Old Town | Streetlife Museum | River Hull | Hull at Sunset | Hull at Golden Hour 🌅 HULL AT GOLDEN HOUR Hull city centre at sunset is one of those things nobody talks about and everybody should. The Museum Quarter — with its cobbled streets, Georgian and Victorian architecture, and independent shops — catches the evening light in a way that feels almost Mediterranean. The River Hull at dusk is quiet and wide, lined with old warehouses and historic buildings that tell the story of one of Britain's great trading cities. This is not the Hull you've heard about. This is the Hull that's been here all along. 🏛️ ABOUT THE DETOUR SERIES Detour from the Edge of Britain is a companion series to Walking the Edge of Britain — a solo 10,000 mile coastal walk around Britain by someone who has never hiked before. While the main series follows the coastal path, the Detour series goes off route to explore the places worth stopping for. No itinerary. No expertise. Just curiosity. ________________________________________ Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed the video, please check out this one → I'm trying to grow this channel & I need your help.
