The landscape park of Villa Melzi, which is located near the town of Bellagio on Lake Como, is one of the first English-style parks in Italy and is part of the "Great Italian Gardens" association. The villa itself was built in neoclassical style in 1810 for Duke Francisco Melzi d'Eril, vice-president of the Italian Republic and ally of Napoleon Bonaparte. The villa is a private residence and public access is closed. But the magnificent park botanical garden, which is located in terraces on several levels and comes close to the shore of Lake Como, is open to visitors from March to October.
