The palace owned today by George Becali is a building with an old tradition dating back more than 80 years. We could even say that the huge building hides behind it things that are part of the history of Romania. In 1900, the land between today's Victoriei Square and Aviatorilor Road was full of wild willows. Through subdivision, it became Filipescu Park, a kind of luxury neighborhood intended for the landowners of the time. Among them is the family of lawyer Iancu Manu, married to Zeta Cantacuzino, the daughter of Cantacuzino's brother "the Nabobul". She owned an impressive dowry. From his wife's dowry, it seems, Manu built immediately after the marriage, the house that today came into Becali's possession. The building was built in 1920. The palace located on Alexandru Alley, number 1, has over 20 rooms, is copied from the Rodin Museum in Paris, and is considered one of the 5-6 very beautiful houses that remain from the old Bucharest. In 1932, the house was bought by the industrialist Max Auschnitt, it is said that the Palace was used for parties with many beautiful women. According to distant relatives of the former owners, Auschnitt was an ugly man but known for his interest in beautiful women. Members of the Government, beautiful women of the time and members of the diplomatic corps came to his parties. In 1937, the 49-year-old Jew Auschnitt renounced his religion for the beautiful daughter of Augustin Pordea, notary and Libertarian Mayor of Cluj. Livia Pordea married Auschnitt in Timișoara in the Catholic Cathedral and gave him 2 children, Steven and Robert. At that time, Auschnitt was one of the largest industrialists in Romania, the administrator of the ironworks and the Resita estates, the largest joint-stock company that existed in Romania. Max Auschnitt was the main sponsor of King Carol and the main political parties. It had a capital of one billion lei and the most employees, over 16,000.
