EPISODE 13 - The Rose of St Magnus Welcome to the thirteenth episode of The Orkney Series! FARA members, Jeana and Kristan, have been travelling around the islands the band are lucky enough to call home, having a blast of some Orcadian tunes and songs in the very places that inspired their names! We hope you’ll enjoy the journey along with us. We were especially looking forward to recording this week's episode, as we’re covering what many Orcadians would consider Orkney’s finest modern slow air - ‘The Rose of St Magnus’ by singer/songwriter, Ivan Drever. It’s one of those perfect melodies that just speaks for itself, and we were delighted to be joined for it by our good friend, and former band member, Jen Austin on the piano. The Rose of St Magnus is one of the beautiful stained glass windows in Kirkwall’s iconic St Magnus Cathedral. We highly recommend a visit if you’re ever on the island, as there’s far more to see than we could fit in one episode!
