Our First West Virgina State Park! (Coopers Rock)

In this episode of Wandering Wagners we traveled to our First West Virginia State Park, Coopers Rock State Park/State Forest, and we stayed at McCollum campground. ‪@westvirginiastateparks1629‬ We were excited to camp here and to be able to explore a new park that offers great hiking opportunities. We were able to get a pull-thru site for our ‪@NEXUSRV‬ Super C motorhome. The campground is also expanding with new sites that will offer 50amp and water at the sites, but it is not open yet and we suspect it will open in 2025. The campground is smaller but does offer quite a few sites that are wooded. The new sites will be mostly sunny. We set out hiking and thought we were on the Raven Rock trail, when the blazes stopped suddenly so Mike and Piper turned back and Lynn kept going on her own, determined to find the lookout that was supposed to be very scenic. However, after searching and coming up empty Lynn also turned back where she noticed the newbie mistake that was made at the very beginning of the trail... we were on the McCollum trail and the Raven Rock trail was just past that trail head. OOPS! We finally made our way on Raven Rock and made it to the lookout and it was beautiful! It was a VERY rocky trail which could make it hard to have solid footing, especially after the rain with wet leaves. Elevation was not bad at all so that part was easy. Next we did Coopers Rock lookout which didn't require a hike, just a walk from the nearby parking lot. Followed up with a 1 mile loop to Henry Iron Clay Furnace Trail. All of the trails we did were pretty easy, but rocky. We did a drive through viewing of the non-electric campground that is also at Coopers Rock called Rhodoendron Campground. This may have been our first stay at a West Virginia State Park, but it definitely won't be our last and we want to return here to do more hiking because we loved it that much!
