Climbing Mount Batur in Bali was one of the most unforgettable experiences of our trip to Indonesia. We started the hike in complete darkness around 3 AM, hiking up an active volcano to reach the summit before sunrise. As the first light hit the horizon, the view over Lake Batur and the surrounding volcanic landscape was absolutely unreal. Mount Batur (1,717m) is one of Bali’s most famous active volcanoes, and you can still see steam rising from the crater. Standing there at sunrise, above the clouds, felt surreal.
