In spring 2021, we compared three implements for direct slurry incorporation behind a trailed slurry tanker in cooperation with the company Meyer. The list price of the machines ranges between 30,000 and 40,000 euros. Early in the morning, we began mounting the first machine: the Meyer Mixi. After taking measurements such as length, width, and height, we drove the tractor and trailer belonging to farmer Stefan Vogelsang from Rheda-Wiedenbrück onto the scales. The Mixi weighs 2 tons, making it the lightest machine in the comparison, also because it was delivered without a trailer. Before we started plowing, we filled the tank and adjusted the machine to our desired working depth. The machines had to prove themselves on a field where a cover crop had been grown the previous summer, but which had largely died back in the spring. In the morning, the mustard straw was still tough, but in the afternoon, it became increasingly brittle from the sun. Two working depths of 4 and 11 cm, as well as two application rates of 15 and 35 m³/ha, were tested to document differences in the working pattern. In the test plots, the Mixi proved to be an easy-to-pull disc harrow that incorporates the slurry very well. The soil is not reconsolidated and remains cloddy. The Mixi F is the larger version of the Mixi. It has 16 more discs. These are mounted on leaf springs. The tine spacing is 12.5 cm, compared to 18 cm for the Mixi without a rear roller. Meyer uses a rectangular tube frame for all implements to offer a modular tooling program. The Mixi F, in the 6 m wide version, weighs just under 4 t and, at 2.40 m, extends far behind the tank. At shallow settings and speeds above 11 km/h, the Mixi F produces a very good working pattern. The pipe roller reconsolidates the soil. Sowing could follow. Due to the low slurry outlet, the passage through the MIXI F is limited. Working depths above 10 cm caused blockages in our case. As a third implement, we tested the Meyer slurry cultivator, which, at 2.5 t including the trailing roller, is comparatively light. With this system, the slurry is introduced directly behind the share tine. Contrary to expectations, we were able to work with the slurry cultivator, equipped with 15 tines spaced 37.5 cm apart, in the cover crop with virtually no blockages. The slurry is deposited in a band at a depth of approximately 6 to 20 cm. The traction requirement is highest, but the slurry incorporation is best. However, the system does not mix the topsoil and leaves an uneven surface. We were pleased with the slurry flow of all three implements.
