The Result of Delaying on the Schedule | 2 Samuel 20:3-10 3 David arrived at his main palace in Jerusalem, and he took ten concubines who had previously stayed to guard the palace, confined them in a separate room, gave them only food, and did not have relations with them. They remained imprisoned as widows until the day they died. 4 The king said to Amasa, “Gather the people of Judah with a loud voice for me within three days, and you also stay here.” 5 Amasa went to gather the people of Judah, but he was delayed on the day the king had appointed. 6 Then David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom; take your lord’s men and pursue him, for he might enter a fortified city and escape from us.” 7 Those who followed Joab, the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men all went out of Jerusalem following Abishai to pursue Sheba son of Bichri. 8 When they came to the great rock at Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. At that time Joab was wearing his military uniform and belting He strapped the sword, which was sheathed in his belt, to his waist, but as he went forward, the sword slipped out and fell. 9 Joab said to Amasa, "Is my brother well?" and he took Amasa's beard with his right hand and pretended to kiss him. 10 Amasa did not pay attention to the sword in Joab's hand. Joab stabbed him in the belly with the sword, and his intestines spilled out onto the ground; he died without being struck again.
