Intelligenza artificiale: la nuova rivoluzione del mondo - Lavoro, industria, economica e politica

Science Thursday Around the Corner - Science Thursday 39th Edition "Artificial Intelligence: The World's New Revolution - Work, Industry, Economics, and Politics" With Marco Mezzalama, Polytechnic University of Turin and President of the Turin Academy of Sciences Wednesday, March 6, 2025 | beeozanam - Community Hub Morning meeting organized in collaboration with the Turin Civic Libraries and the Network of Neighborhood Houses. The proposed topics, selected by participants with the support of volunteers, are explored in depth during the meetings by expert speakers. The world is no longer the same and will continue to be increasingly different, especially due to the transformation brought about by artificial intelligence (AI), which has now entered our lives and is the most visible and perhaps most disturbing element of the ongoing digital transformation. AI is leading to radical changes in the economy, industry, society, and personal life. Even work will never be the same again: while in the last century, electrical and mechanical technologies revolutionized manual labor, today AI is bringing about major changes in intellectual work—from journalists to teachers, from lawyers to accountants. "Intelligent systems" are replacing us in many activities, more than we might think. They make decisions for us, and in certain fields (from finance to medicine) they are proving to be more skilled than we are. Furthermore, the new "generative AI" seems to understand us and responds to us in natural language. It writes articles and sometimes even poetry. With Marco Mezzalama, we will try to understand how AI works and what principles it is based on, and we will examine its likely social, economic, and industrial consequences: for example, what effect will it have on work and employment? We will also discuss its global control and the countries most at the forefront of this disruptive field. Are we perhaps moving toward a world government based on those who can control AI—that is, a techno-dictatorship? Marco Mezzalama Marco Mezzalama is Professor Emeritus of Computer Systems at the Polytechnic University of Turin. From 1993 to 2012, he served as Vice Rector for Information Systems and Deputy Vice Rector (2001-2005). He has authored more than 150 publications in national and international journals, has served as a reviewer for prestigious international journals, and has reviewed research projects at the European level. He has served and continues to serve on the Boards of Directors or Advisory Boards of prestigious research institutions and listed companies. Since November 2024, he has served as President of the Academy of Sciences of Turin.
