Our First IVF Appointment Didn’t Go As Planned | Accessibility, Advocacy & A “Great Uterus”
Today we’re taking you along to our very first IVF-related appointment—or what we thought would be a straightforward pre-op visit. What followed was half a day with diagnostic procedures, accessibility barriers, advocacy we didn’t expect to have to do, and a reminder that disability doesn’t pause just because a moment is supposed to feel hopeful. This was meant to be a hopeful milestone, and while parts of it were hard and disappointing, we did make it through together. We’re sharing this because these are the realities many interabled couples face—and they’re rarely talked about. If you’ve been through IVF, fertility treatments, or medical advocacy of any kind, we’d love to hear your experiences—especially your thoughts on PGT-A testing and genetic screening. Thanks for being here and following along with us. — Conor & Marisa #IVFJourney #InterAbledCouple #DisabilityAndIVF #AccessibilityMatters #SMA #FertilityTreatment #IVFReality #MedicalAdvocacy 00:00 Heading to our first IVF appointment 01:00 What today’s procedures actually are (not a hysterectomy) 02:05 Parking, accessibility & the elevator from 1985 03:30 Post-procedure check-in 04:45 What went wrong at the clinic 06:10 Being told Connor couldn’t come into the room 08:20 ADA conversation & room size issue 10:15 Advocating for accommodation 12:00 Finally being moved to a larger room 13:30 Mock embryo transfer 14:45 Endometrial biopsy experience 16:00 Hysteroscopy & the moment that made Marissa laugh 18:45 “You have a great uterus” 20:00 Student doctor commentary 21:30 Processing the emotional impact 23:00 What’s next: genetic testing & PGT-A 25:00 Closing thoughts
