POULENC | Gloria

Poulenc's Gloria was commissioned by the Koussevitsky Foundation of America. The music infused with humor and zest for life, reflects his unique personality, blending solemnity with mischievous exuberance. A friend once described him as having qualities of both a monk and a playful street thug, a duality evident in the captivating and dynamic Gloria, and the rest of his music, that left a bug impact on our music heritage. Poulenc said: “While writing it I had in mind those Crozzoli frescoes with angels sticking out their tongues, and also some solemn-looking Benedictine monks that I saw playing football one day.” 00:00 Gloria 2:40 Laudamus te 5:40 Domine Deus 10:13 Domine Fili unigenite 11:36 Domine Deus, Agnus Dei 18:18 Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris The USJ Choir The Jeunesses Musicales du Liban Orchestra Yara Kasti, Soprano Yasmina Sabbah, Conductor June 2024, Saint Joseph Church, Beirut, Lebanon.
