Romont Romont is a municipality and capital of the district of Glâne in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. Tour Boyer La Tour à Boyer was built in the 13th century. Soon after, it was equipped with a complete defensive system, which made it a small castle. In the 19th century, it was acquired at auction by a Mr. Boyer who wanted to use the stones for other constructions. The city bought the building before it could carry out this project, but the Tower kept its name! The esplanade is a very nice playground for children. The Tour à Boyer is a monument of weight: the thickness of the walls is 3.10 m at the base and 2.60 m at the top, at 38 m! Château de Romont Romont Castle is a castle in the municipality of Romont of the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. The alleged founding on Romont in 921 by the Burgundian King Rudolph II is likely a legend. A document from 1177 from the Abbey of Hauterive mentions the Romont as a wooded hill. In 1239, Anselme (or Nantelme) sold the rights to Romont hill to Peter II of Savoy. At that time, Romont was part of the territory of the Bishop of Lausanne. In 1240, Peter II sent a castellan to Romont to build a castle and found a village. The main castle (Grand Donjon), with a typical Savoy square floor plan, was completed before 1260. The original castle partially collapsed in 1579 and was rebuilt by Fribourg in 1591. Another castle with a round tower, formerly known as the Petit Donjon, but now known as Boyer-tower was built around 1250–1260, most likely by Peter II. Vitrocentre Romont The Vitromusée Romont, formerly the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass, founded in 1981, is located in the Château de Romont, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. Cure Catholique-Romaine The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in Romont is a magnificent Gothic monument. It contains treasures of stone, iron and glass. The first church, consecrated in the 13th century, burnt down a century or so later. Only the right lateral nave escaped the flames. Work was carried out in the 14th and 15th centuries to rebuild and embellish it.
