A sad end for national industry and employment. After 19 years of uninterrupted operation, the Dass Group announced the definitive closure of its historic plant located in Eldorado, Misiones province, the only one in the entire country dedicated to manufacturing Nike brand sneakers. The decision, which will take effect on July 24, will leave the last 150 workers without jobs. According to union representatives, the drastic measure is due to a sharp drop in consumption and the complete lack of new orders from brands. The factory experienced its golden age, employing more than 1,500 workers, but in recent months daily production had plummeted to levels unsustainable for the company. While the company assured that it will pay the corresponding severance packages to the laid-off workers, it confirmed that it will maintain sales offices and logistics centers in Buenos Aires to import its own brands directly from Brazil.
