July 3, 2026 With severe stage two fire bans across Colorado and heavy smoke blanketing the mountains, plans changed this week. Instead of heading into the high country, I’m back volunteering at the horse rescue for a special Independence Day weekend edition. Join me for a full evening walkthrough to meet the incredible rescue horses, mares, geldings, and minis, plus a quick look at the sheep and goats. As the storm clouds roll in and the evening cools down, I prep my camp area, clear out some trip hazards, and get set up for a simple night dinner over the propane burner.
