To seek forgiveness, they searched for Lord Shiva. However, Shiva did not want to meet them and disguised himself as a bull (Nandi) and hid in the Garhwal Himalayas. When the Pandavas finally recognized him, Shiva disappeared into the ground. Different parts of his body appeared at five different locations, which later became known as the Panch Kedar temples. At Tungnath, it is believed that Lord Shiva’s arms (bahu) appeared. The Pandavas built a temple here to worship him and seek redemption. Today, Tungnath is considered the highest Shiva temple in the world, standing at an altitude of about 3,680 meters. 🌙 The Legend of Chandrashila Just above Tungnath lies Chandrashila Peak, meaning “Moon Rock.” According to Hindu mythology, this is the place where Lord Rama meditated after defeating Ravana to atone for the sin of killing a Brahmin king. Another legend says that the Moon God (Chandra) performed intense penance here to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings, which is why the summit came to be known as Chandrashila. Today, Chandrashila is famous for its breathtaking 360° views of Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Trishul, and Kedarnath.
