Unexpectedly, during the event, Shanghai was hit by an extreme rainstorm described as a "once-in-a-century" event. 200 millimeters of rain fell in four hours, instantly turning many roads into vast expanses of water. The torrential rain severely damaged several administrative districts in Shanghai, with Yangpu District being particularly hard hit. Many roads remained flooded, leaving numerous vehicles stranded in the middle of the road. Many people filmed the flooded streets, and videos circulating online showed several luxury cars almost half-submerged, forcing drivers to abandon their vehicles. Besides traffic paralysis, some shopping malls and stores were also severely flooded, with rainwater mixed with mud and sand pouring into the shops, leading people to exclaim that it was like "Shanghai turned into a sea." Some even paddled homemade rafts to get out, sparking heated discussions. Comments included, "The floodwaters are backflowing, Hema has turned into a hippopotamus," "A jinx, wherever he goes, bad luck follows," and "This is President Xi's premonition, inspecting the disaster area in advance."
