Fida Omar - Simurgh (Dhamali Saz)

The first video from one of the most joyous recording sessions of my life, in Sur, Balochistan. Fida Omar plays a rendition of Simurgh, a dhamali tune that is played widely across Balochistan, accompanied by his brother on Damburag. FIda is the nephew and student of Ustad Omar Surozi, one of the most legendary Suroz players of Balochistan. This recording was made in their family home and all the kids dancing here are Omar's descendants, with music running through their veins.
