I'm tired of the old klinker or porcelain stoneware flooring and have decided to replace the flooring on my balcony. But I don't want to tear out all the tiles, and I have issues with the thickness, so I can't put another tile on top. Both to avoid weighing down the floor and because otherwise the windows would no longer close, this is where resins come in handy. Today, I want to give you an overview of the different systems you can use to give your terrace a modern, beautiful look. First and foremost, a terrace should be easy to clean, aesthetically pleasing, livable, and modern. I'm not talking about materials other than resins here, so I won't talk about large-format porcelain stoneware or parquet-effect tiles, which lose a year of their lifespan every time I mention them. I am, however, talking about microcement and similar complementary flooring options. One option you might consider is flake or chip flooring. What are they? It's a decoration applied directly to an epoxy substrate, and the resulting effect is a very interesting, classic look that's somewhat reminiscent of old terrazzo or marble chips. They're smooth to the touch and come in a variety of colors. The job is quite quick; it can be done in 4 or 5 days. Another alternative is ceramic quartz flooring. Here too, the style is quite classic. The ceramic quartz is colored in various shades and dusted over an epoxy resin base. Once dry, it's sanded and further protected with a polyurethane resin that makes it easy to clean. Finally, we have resin or microcement. For exteriors, we use Top Ciment microcement. Over the years, we've appreciated its quality, resistance, durability, and colorfastness, and we're very satisfied with it. Microcement terraces require a series of processes; we can say that the work phases are a bit more complex than the other two, and the costs are clearly in line with the labor hours. The beauty of this flooring is that it remains smooth, with a slightly textured but not excessively textured texture, customizable in color, and easy to clean. Outdoors, the issue of cleanliness shouldn't be underestimated, and of all three solutions, the one I find the easiest to clean is microcement. Outdoors, it would be better to use non-slip materials, so the grip that forms will inevitably make the surface less cleanable than a regular floor. Microcement, processed as we do, won't cause you to have these kinds of problems. Finally, another "collateral" advantage is the waterproofing of the terrace. Since these materials have no joints and are impregnated with waterproofing products to prevent them from being damaged by water, they become a more than effective barrier against water infiltration. Therefore, if you have minor infiltration problems, instead of using the resin membrane systems I often discuss in the canal, you can use these products to avoid demolition costs and redo the floor without having to remove tiles and the like.
