Tennis Footwork - 5 Drills To Improve At Home With over 2 billion people living under lockdowns worldwide currently, many tennis players around the world are struggling to stay in shape at home. Tennis clubs are closed, gyms are closed and many countries have a very strict policy on people leaving their homes even to exercise or visit parks etc. These five tennis footwork drills should help you stay light on your feet and help to mix up your home workout routines. Drill One Start off with your feet together and jump into a wide, split step position and do a double split step on the spot before returning to the starting position. Repeat for 30 seconds and then have a 30-second rest or go straight into drill two. Drill Two Hop and split step. Start off on your right leg and hop into a split step, then hop onto your left leg and repeat the split step and hop cycle, alternating between the right and left leg hops. Go for 30 seconds at a high intensity. Drill Three Fast feet in a wide base. Have your feet in your normal ready position or split step stance and sprint on the spot whilst maintaining that wide stance. Go for 30 seconds at a high pace. Drill Four Side shuffle steps on the spot. Go one side shuffle step to your right then one step to your left and repeat for 30 seconds at a high pace. Focus on staying low when you change direction. Drill Five Runners with a wide base. Start off once again in that wide athletic stance, imagine one foot is in front of a line and the other foot is behind it. Jump change and swap the feet over and repeat for 30 seconds at a high pace. Once you complete all five drills, that would equal one set. Go for a minimum of two sets but you could also do three, four or even five sets. It all depends on how much time you want to dedicate to these drills and how fit you are currently.
