This is our next trip to the island of the sun, Sicily. This time, we chose its capital, Palermo. What attractions and monuments await us in this extraordinary city, often associated with the mafia? We abandoned this perception of Palermo, as it's a thing of the past. We focused on the unique atmosphere unique to Sicily, and we weren't disappointed. And what did we see? We started at the Porta Nuova city gate, which marks the beginning of the city's main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Our first stop was the Norman Palace, where we can see, among other things, the Palatine Chapel, whose design blends many cultures and religions. We'll learn about King Roger II and stroll through the royal gardens. This isn't the only park in the city, as we'll also visit Villa Bonnani, Villa Giulia, Via Garibaldi, and the most important Botanical Garden. In each of them, we'll see gigantic ficus trees. We'll explore the Cathedral from the basement to the roof, as well as several other architecturally interesting temples. We'll see the Placa Qutro Canti, Pretoria, and Bellini. We'll sample the delights of Sicilian cuisine and visit three historic mercati. We'll stroll along the seaside promenade.
