Scenic Drive Across Mojave National Preserve: Kelbaker Road - Kelso to I-40, Old US 66 to Amboy

Enjoy this drive across the sparsely-visited Mojave National Preserve, in southern California! This drive begins in the middle of the park, at the Kelso visitor center and historic train depot. We'll head south on Kelbaker road to the Mojave Preserve's southern exit, then cross over I-40 and continue down to Historic US Route 66. As of 2026, much of this historic stretch of road is closed, but they have managed to install some detour routes that allow us to travel to the ghost town of Amboy, California.
