FUI ADOTADA AOS 6 ANOS E MINHA FAMÍLIA ME DEVOLVEU AOS 13 | Histórias de ter.a.pia
Jaqueline was adopted at age six, and her adoptive family decided to return her at age 13. This only happened because "Brazilian-style adoptions" were common in the 1980s. There were no judges, paperwork, or bureaucracy: just the decision of her biological grandmother, who was no longer able to care for her. Her grandmother asked at church if anyone would be willing to adopt a girl, and a family stepped forward. From that moment on, Jaqueline had a new home. But what seemed like a fresh start soon revealed another side. Instead of guidance, Jaqueline encountered violence. When Jaqueline was ten, she was taken to her adoptive sister's house, who married and became pregnant, to help with the household chores. After experiencing a traumatic experience at her sister's house, Jaqueline was blamed, and her mother decided to return her, rather than protect her. She took Jaqueline and spent the day looking for someone to "keep" her. Thus began a painful saga: months in one house, then another, always feeling like a burden. The difficulties continued when Jaqueline was sent to Rio de Janeiro to "help" in other people's homes. Without a salary, caring for children, and surviving only on food and shelter, she felt disposable. Years passed, and she began to think that perhaps the streets were a better place: at least there, no one would abandon her again. It was at the age of 20 that Jaqueline met Jo, the church's youth counselor. Hearing her story, Jo cried, but quickly made a decision: she offered her a home. For the first time, Jaqueline felt truly welcomed. Jo got Jaqueline back on track: she encouraged her to study, offered emotional support, and helped her find her first job. 30 years later, Jaqueline still lives with Jo. Today, Jaqueline is dedicated to a very special cause: fighting for the rights of children and adolescents. Her story has been reinterpreted, but she knows many others are still unfolding. She wrote a book to spread her message and is proud of who she has become. And it is with this strength that Jaqueline moves forward, determined to make a difference.
