Alcalde de Los Olivos: “La delincuencia ha superado la capacidad de respuesta de los municipios”

The mayor of Los Olivos, Felipe Castillo, warned that the rising wave of crime has overwhelmed the municipalities' capacity to respond, following another armed attack on a sporting goods store located on the 35th block of Alfredo Mendiola Avenue. The establishment was shot at for the second time in less than a week, in a suspected extortion attempt captured on security cameras. The footage shows two assailants arriving at the store, where one of them, dressed in brown clothing and a cap, pulled a firearm from his backpack and fired several shots at the store's facade. After the attack, both fled in different directions: one escaped on foot with apparent composure, while the other got on a motorcycle that was waiting for him a few meters away. As a result of the attack, security guard Micky Pulido Rupay, 44, who has no prior criminal record, was wounded. The store remained closed the following day, while business owners and residents expressed their concern about the insecurity plaguing the area. Furthermore, they recalled that the same business had already been the target of a grenade attack in May 2025. ATTACK UNDER INVESTIGATION In response to this latest act of violence, Felipe Castillo stated that Alfredo Mendiola Avenue is one of the main commercial thoroughfares in North Lima and that protecting business owners requires coordinated action from the government. The National Police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible, although so far no formal complaint has been filed by the business owners.
