"Building Our Nation: The Contribution of Afro-Caribbean Migration in Costa Rica" is a documentary miniseries produced by the Chair of African and Caribbean Studies and the Vice-Rector's Office for Academic Affairs at the University of Costa Rica. Through first-person accounts and testimonies, it tells the story of migrants from the Caribbean islands and the integration of their descendants into the country. This first episode recounts the context and dynamics of labor migration that occurred in the Caribbean Basin during the last quarter of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, as well as the origins and characteristics of the people who settled on the Caribbean coast and in other regions of the country.
