Throughout the 12th and 13th centuries, Northern European powers launched campaigns against the last pagan remnants of Europe. Over the course of a century, the crusaders spread Christianity to the Baltic tribes and the Finnish tribes. Finally, all but one part of Europe remained: the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which fiercely maintained its pagan beliefs well into the 14th century.
