NEUROLOGY. Video recording of the online seminar for medical professionals "Meningitis in Children. Part 2" About the seminar: Among infectious diseases in children, infectious diseases of the nervous system account for up to 3-5% of all cases. Despite constant improvements in diagnostic and therapeutic methods, neuroinfections in children remain a significant medical problem. This is due to the complexity of clinical diagnosis at the prehospital stage, the need for invasive diagnostic procedures to confirm the diagnosis, the specific nature of treatment, as well as frequent complications and a frequently unfavorable prognosis. The most common form of neuroinfection in children is viral and bacterial meningitis. The annual incidence of meningitis in children in the Russian Federation averages 8.22 per 100,000. This pathology is characterized by a predominance of severe forms and the frequent development of life-threatening conditions. The prognosis primarily depends on the etiology of the meningitis and the timeliness of the initiation of etiotropic therapy. Bacterial meningitis has the most severe course, with mortality rates in children averaging 10-20%, and neurological complications occurring in 20-40% of patients. With serous viral meningitis, mortality in children is extremely rare, but the incidence of neurological complications is also high. The second seminar in this series will discuss possible complications, outcomes, treatment strategies, clinical examinations, and rehabilitation for meningitis in children, as well as specific prevention options.
