TOPIC: Diabetic Retinopathy. INTRODUCTION: Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in the working-age population worldwide. Its primary risk factor is poor glycemic control, placing diabetologists at the forefront of its prevention and treatment. A thorough understanding of the classification of diabetic retinopathy is essential for diabetologists and ophthalmologists to communicate effectively. There are two distinct clinical forms: diabetic maculopathy, which affects the macula and leads to decreased visual acuity, and proliferative diabetic retinopathy, which affects the retinal periphery and, if left untreated, progresses to serious complications and blindness. While intravitreal anti-VEGF injections represent a significant advance in the management of diabetic maculopathy, panretinal photocoagulation remains the gold standard for the management of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Regardless of the treatment, close collaboration between diabetologists and ophthalmologists remains key to effective and appropriate management. EVENT: 5th Congress of the ADN Association.
