VAMUDARA - a cover of this Shona song by John Low, played on nyunga nyunga mbira
Vamudara is a drinking song of Zimbabwe's Shona people. It's about an old man (correction to what I say in the video: Vamudara means old man in the Shona language) who dresses in rags and is very fond of drinking. This song was taught by Dumisani Maraire in the musical anthology 'Let Your Voice be Heard' (World Music Press). The instrument I'm playing is a 15-key nyunga nyunga mbira from Zimbabwe. The nyunga nyunga part for this song is my own arrangement.
