Maurice Merleau-Ponty - Phenomenology of Perception (14.1/18)
This video takes us to the thing, where we look at perceptual constants; that is, how characteristics of the thing appear constant despite actual changes in appearance. MP considers four perceptual constants; size and form, colour, weight, and tactility, but focuses heavily on the first two. The central idea is that the appearance of the thing is never calculated; rather, it always manifests for us in relation to our bodies and within a wider context. There is also a good discussion of lighting in here that is quite reminiscent of Levinas. Website: http://www.absurdbeing.com Twitter: / absurdbeing Patreon: https://patreon.com/user?u=84430098
