A visit to Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick in 2019

A slideshow of photos I took during my first visit to Ballyhahill in County Limerick on Monday 14th January 2019. Ballyhahill (Irish: Baile Dhá Thuile which translates into English as 'the ford at the mouth of two floods') is a village in the west of County Limerick. It is located south of Loghill, west of Shanagolden, southwest of Foynes, southeast of Glin and north of Carrigkerry. The Owvane River (also called the White River) flows through Ballyhahill. The village had a population of 146 in the 2016 Census. Our Lady of the Visitation Church in Ballyhahill was built in 1829. It reopened in 1971 after undergoing renovations. It is one of two churches in Loghill-Ballyhahill Parish in the Diocese of Limerick. Ballyhahill National School was founded in 1874. The present school building was built in 1959. The school is now called Scoil Naomh Mhuire. Ballyhahill Co-Operative creamery was registered on 16 October 1890. In 1973 the creamery was purchased by Golden Vale Co-Op in Charleville. In 1907 A Carnegie Public Library was opened in Ballyhahill. Gerald Griffins GAA Club is located east of the village. It is the GAA Club for Loghill-Ballyhahill Parish. Gaelic Football is the main sport of the club. The club was founded in 1888 and has been called Gerald Griffins since the 1960's.
