Yamaha XS650 History 1970-1983
Yamaha's first 4stroke motorcycle, All colors and models(USA).1970-1983 (More info Below) 1970 XS650-1 Candy Green Only 6586 produced wordwide 1971 XS650-1B Candy Orange ( called candy Orange but looks really Gold ) * rarest of the rare, there were 200 XS750cc built in July of 1971 as 1972 models,to qualify for AMA racing,identified by 743cc stamped on the barrels* 1971 production was 18,283 units wordwide. 1972 XS650-2 Brilliant Red / white (non-us colors were orange/black) 1970/71 were kickstart only but 1972 got electric start and Disc Brake. 1973 TX650 Metallic Flake Blue ( non-us colors were Pearl Yellow Gold) 1973/74's have a TX prefix to match other bikes in yamaha's line, they went back to XS in 1975. 1974 TX650-A Cinnamon Brown (looks really maroon) non-us had a Vegas Green. Earlier models of the 650 had a compression release to aid starting, 1974 got a new stronger starter so the comp-release was eliminated. 1975 XS650-B Star Black ( non-us colors were Cardinal Red and Frost Silver) 1976 XS650-C French Blue ( non-us color was Brilliant Red or Candy Apple Red (Aus) The front brake caliper was moved behind the fork leg for better handling. 1977 XS-650D Maxi Maroon or Bountiful Blue 1978 XS650-E Star Black or Metallic Spruce Green. Last year for the "Standard" in the US. 1978 XS650-SE Special 650 - Midnight Blue or Vintage Burgandy (1st year of the Special 650 ) 1979 XS650-SF BlackGold or Carmine Red 1979 XS650-Special II New Yamaha Black ( Special II's have wire wheels) 1980 XS650-Special II BlackGold 1980 XS650-SG New Yamaha Black or Cardinal Red 1981 XS650-Special II Indigo Blue or New Ruby Red 1981 XS650-SH Frost Silver or New Yamaha Black 1982 XS650-SJ 1983 XS650-SK HERITAGE SPECIAL New Yamaha Black or New Ruby Red ( these bikes are rare, all the pics I have show wire wheels so I don't know if there was a cast wheel version. And I can't even find a pic of a red one so they must be rare also)
